The Lakers Need To Sell Basketball In Free Agency

This season is going to be very important for the Los Angeles Lakers. Magic Johnson and his front office have made it crystal clear they want to make a splash in free agency next summer, and they are relying on the young guys to make this possible. Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram understand they are going to be on court pitch meetings to free agents.

Walton and staff have to make certain adjustments and structure the offense to make it look good for 82 games. Players may have certain abilities to play in Walton’s offense but their roles have to be limited to mask the flaws. Clarkson for example, he has the speed to fit into Waltons offense but his ball handling and passing are sacrificed when the pace is fast. A cutting, slashing, catch and shoot Clarkson will be ideal for this offense.
Ball has to tune out the hype, focus on his conditioning, be a true leader on the floor and everything else will fall in place. I expect to see a more relaxed Ingram this season. Ingram has great potential but he has to be more confident with his game and stay aggressive. Kuzma just has to keep doing what heโ€™s doing as far as playing smart, efficient basketball. Players like Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr. and Clarkson may very well be trade bait and I think we see them have solid seasons as well. With the addition of Brook Lopez and Andrew Bogut I see some fun, defensive basketball in Lakers near future.

With the season starting Thursday let’s just hope the young players are ready to move forward, and take a part in turning this storied franchise back around. I have a feeling free agents are going to be paying close attention to see if they can catch another Magic wink.
