New England Patriots fans can smile now. What an outstanding game for the long awaited arrival of Tom Brady. He made his 2016 debut in Week five on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. He had no rust in his bones. Brady played tremendous football he looked good from the first snap of the football game. On the first series Brady started the drive by leading the Patriots to a touchdown run by LeGarrette Blount. Brady’s first passing score of 2016 was to tight end Martellus Bennett. He then found Martellus Bennett for easy an touchdown. Bennett’s ankle injury didn’t seem to slow him down. The Tight End played the best game of his career with receiving 3 touchdowns as a Patriot. Him and Brady are already building chemistry. This is why he came to New England, to catch balls and win games. He has to be excited playing in New England. We didn’t see a Gronk spike in this game but Rob Gronkowski played his best game this year by far. He had over 100 yards receiving. Gronkowski had a great highlight play for a 34-yard catch-and-run breaking multiple tackles dismantling the Browns DBs. That play set the tone for him to let us know he is back. With that reception Rob Gronkowski set a new milestone going over 100 yards for the 21st time in his career, tying Antonio Gates for 4th most 100-yard games by a TE.

Brady seemed to be invincible on the field. He torched the Browns for 406 yards and 3 TDs. He connected with several different players on offense. Brady did what he does best, reading the defense and calling out defenders. Brady picked apart this defense with this dynamic duo of Gronkowski & Bennett and secret weapon James White. The Patriots took advantage of using White’s speed and explosiveness to design screenplays. Every time he is on the field he makes big plays. He is a playmaker catching the ball out the backfield. We will see more of him at the tailback moving forward. The Patriots have not had a deep threat wide receiver since Randy Moss and it’s safe to say Chris Hogan is a deep threat to this offense. Hogan was targeted four times for 114 yards, including 63 and 45-yard gains. Unfortunately he suffered a head injury and possibly has a concussion. We hope he has a speedy recovery to play in week six. The offense did it’s job and so did the defense. This is a talented defensive team that can cover and rush the passer.

The Patriots defense roughed up the young Browns quarterback Cody Kessler. Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower forced a safety by hitting rookie quarterback Cody Kessler injuring his ribs and chest. Backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst stepped under center and he also took some tough blows and left the game with a knee injury late in the fourth. The defensive coverage was good as it forced both quarterbacks to stay in the pocket longer to take huge hits and force passes. This Browns team was not mentally prepared and it showed. Hue Jackson had no answers for New England on both sides of the ball. We expected this team to dominant because the Browns are the worst team in the NFL. But it was fun to watch Brady back in action. Tom Brady’s career is not declining at all. I know it’s early to say this because he has only played one game but this is the same Brady we seen last year. He didn’t lose a step in throwing the football and making accurate passes. New England can rely on Brady to carry this team. He served his four game suspension and his revenge tour has just began. Next week he will be dealing with much tougher competition. The Patriots host the Cincinnati Bengals at home. Great team victory.
