Colin Kaepernick decided to take a stand on a public stage by protesting the national anthem during the 49ers game vs the Green Bay Packers. After the game Kaepernick explained.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said to the media after  Friday’s game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Colin Kaepernick is referring to the hypocrisy Of America, a country that celebrates slave owners and people who did not believe blacks were equal to whites. This country has a systemic problem with police brutality that has been well documented throughout our history. According to the Washington Post unarmed black men were five times more likely to be gunned down by police officers than unarmed white men.

If you have a problem with Colin Kaepernick’s protest and the way he went about it then you are apart of the problem. Silence will not heal this country, but speaking about the issues will.
